If you've visited here before you know that the experience usually begins with an interesting film about HANO's recovery from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. For the next several weeks we'll be pre-empting the film because we want to engage you in a process that will be extremely important to HANO's future.
As many of you know, the Gilmore Kean team performed an assessment of HANO that was published in February. Our team has now been engaged to manage and oversee the process of HANO's final recovery and revitalization as a competently performing public housing authority, ready and able to serve the needs of New Orleanians in need of affordable housing.
As we have promised, we have begun developing a detailed and comprehensive work plan that will result in the achievement of dual goals - restoration of HANO to the status of satisfactory performing housing authority and return of HANO to governance by the City of New Orleans.
We are developing this plan in stages and intend to afford the public opportunities to comment all along the way. In the first phase, each HANO operating unit has developed a set of performance objectives which, when linked to those of the other units, will represent a comprehensive array of objectives necessary to achieve the goals. In the next phase around mid to late-September, we will develop a list of tasks and subtasks in order to achieve each objective. We will also prepare a projected timetable for the accomplishment of each. Those tasks, subtasks, and timetables will also be presented for public comment. Finally, sometime in November, we will present a draft of the work plan in near final form for public comment.
The links at the bottom of this page will take you to the location of the objectives that have been developed for each operating unit of the Authority. We invite you to comment on them as you see fit. We are especially interested in knowing if they are clear, if they are sufficiently comprehensive, if you think modifications are necessary, or if you would add or delete objectives. We'll present our revised objectives at the same time we present our draft tasks, subtasks, and timetable.
The links below will allow you to identify yourself or comment anonymously. In addition, you may send your comments to:

And, of course, you are welcome to attend any of the upcoming board meetings to comment on this or any other subject of interest to you.
We want to make sure that in the future, HANO is a full participant in the life of this great city and operates in a manner that responds to the housing needs of low income New Orleanians. Your participation in this effort helps us achieve that aim.
Sincerely,
David Gilmore
