Housing Choice Voucher
Program (HCVP)

Disaster Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher Program operates and manages an Annual Contributions Contract (ACC) to assist low-income families with rental payments through the Section 8 Program. The Department develops Section 8 service initiatives, conducts programmatic analysis, and engages in budgeting, financing, communications, and counseling functions to assist program participants. It also ensures that landlord Housing Assistance Payments are made as scheduled, performs fair market rent determinations, conducts Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections and re-inspections, and performs annual reviews of tenant utility allowances - making revisions and adjustments as necessary.

HCVP Announcement

On September 27, 2005, the US Department for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released details of an ambitious new program to provide up to 18 months of temporary rental housing to thousands of families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. HUD and a network of approximately 2,500 public housing authorities will jointly administer the Disaster Voucher Program (DVP). DVP allows affected families to live in any jurisdiction and many families wish to return or remain home. HANO’s Master Property List is a catalog of available property in the New Orleans Area.
